I’ve ordered tons of stuff from Amazon and to this point have had a good experience on orders, the only exception being a book that arrived smelling like smoke. However, that was an independent seller, so everything with Amazon as the seller had been fine.
Until now.
This was the worst experience I have EVER had with ANY retailer. Not only did the TV arrive with a completely shattered screen, but I was NOT contacted at all by Amazon in regards to a replacement. When I called and was finally able to get through being on hold they weren’t even aware I had refused delivery. I was then informed that they would not replace my order-the order THEY had damaged. Instead I would be refunded so I could then purchase again. The reason for this? First I was told they didn’t have a comparable product. That seemed bogus because it was still listed online and there were more available. When I questioned how that was possible I was subsequently told that it was because the TV wasn’t sold through Amazon. When I asked how that could be since it stated it was sold and shipped by Amazon I was told “Well yeah but we don’t consider it as part of Amazon.” Gotta love that sort of logic. Ridiculous.
SURE I am going to just wait for my refund so I can then reorder another broken TV, I can hardly wait. I just wish I could rate this 0 stars.

I own 3 Samsung 1080 LCD TVs so I’m a fan. My husband wanted a bigger screen and heard plasma was the way to go. Since I love the Samsung TVs we already have I thought it would be a no-brainer. I’m not a tech wiz so I’m not sure if it’s the 720p, large screen size, our cable provider (we have HD cable service) or the plasma but this set was not a great option compared to others.
When viewing this Samsung, even though the colors and contrast look good and the pixelation isn’t too bad – any words have slight blurring and that’s a deal breaker for me. This TV does not present a crisp enough picture to warrant all the stars as far as I am concerned. Yes, it has some great features as noted by others but bottom line, there are better plasma options available (Sony and Panasonic for starters). So you have this huge 50″ screen but what good is it if it isn’t a crisp picture? For those who told me that it’s not a real issue since it’s only when viewed up close, why would you accept that for the money spent? Wouldn’t you want to start out with a clean and crisp picture to begin with? That’s my view…….
I do love the way there is no fast motion blurring which is a big plus for my husband when watching sports. On this it beats our LCDs hands down but I want more if I have to spend much more money. I’m holding out for a LED TV which is the best option of all.

I’ve had this TV for 5 months, and it already has 5 games burned into the screen. One of witch after only 3 hours of play. Also network logos like Nick Jr and Sifi channel are burned in. why dose it have a game mode if you can’t play games on it, you can’t even watch most TV channels because there logo will burn into your screen. What good is a TV you can’t watch? No help from Samsung with this. VERY UNSATISFIED!!!
PS. My complaint is with Samsung, not Amazon.

Taking the plunge into HDTV from a CRT, I’m mostly pleased, and with decently-transferred DVDs the image quality is what I was hoping for — a viable home theater.
I made the mistake of making the Planet Earth DVDs the first thing I played. They almost looked better on my old CRT, and I was crestfallen that I’d just thrown away $900, but putting on a few other DVDs showed it to be a DVD issue, not the TV (I’m running a progressive scan DVD player with component cables directly to the TV).
I’m also running Yamaha’s entry-level receiver, HTR-5830, and unfortunately I’m noticing a little lip-sync issue. The next one up, HTR-5840, has lip-sync correction.
One area that was a huge improvement from CRT was with the XBox 360. Really impressive.
So to those making the move into HDTV for the first time, be aware of factors that will make it a less-than-ideal experience, but it’s a great TV for the price and in the right circumstances.
Update—————————-
Not having bought a receiver in a few years, I thought all I’d need to have the receiver handle all outgoing video traffic was one cable. Evidently it’s now acceptable for a receiver to only transmit the same kind of traffic that goes in; in other words, video input from composite-, component- and HDMI-connected sources would need three different cables out to the TV.
It’s a scam that video conversion isn’t standard in today’s A/V receivers.
