I wouldn't say the picture will look like crap, it just won't look as good as HD. It'll look similar to standard tv. I don't believe the Xbox will do damage to a Plasma tv as I play my PS3 on mine. If the Xbox doesn't have an HD cable with it make sure and get one, you'll thank yourself for that.

If you’re going to be spending that kind of money on an HDTV, you might want to seriously think about getting some HD TV signals to work with. Hook up an antenna if you can get any local digital HD broadcasts and see what you think.

I don’t know about plasmas, but I’ve got a 19″ Samsung LCD, and SD pictures really don’t look all that spectacular unless I’m far enough away not to notice. They’re not by any means awful, but the same picture on my 10-year-old 480i CRT looks somehow better. I can’t tell you why, really, but it just does. Perhaps I just know it could look so much better if the higher resolution were there, because I’ve seen it on that screen at other times?

Is there a setting on your 360 to help cut down on burn-in? Definitely use that if you can find it. The main thing I know you want to do is keep the picture changing, so at least try not to set the controls down in the middle of something and leave the TV in a “game paused” screen for a few hours.

Hi – I’m a gamer too and not to be critical, but your first mistake is buying a Vizio.

Yeah, I know they’re cheap. But there’s a reason why. I use to work in the trade industry up till last year and I have personally dealt with Vizio (from their American corporate offices in Irvine, Ca and around the City of Industry near Los Angeles).

You gaming will look less than great because you’re playing it ona substandard television that is KNOWN to fail within 6 months (I went to Vizio’s return warehouse – all 3 of them – in City of Industry and saw 60 foot stacks of there televisions, all returned from Costco).

Don’t buy a Vizio. Yes I truly understand they are less expensive, but go with a 1080P Samsung, LG, or Sony. You’re gaming experience will be superior. They all have “gaming” modes on there televisions to ensure smooth pixel translations from a PS3 or Xbox (not the Wii – the Wii is old school, so won’t make much of a difference).

As for messing up the tv – unless you pass out one night from playing and leave it on the menu screen for hours on end, you may end up with screen burn.

But no, playing games on an lcd or plasma shouldn’t mess it up.
