techstoprepair.blogspot.com Here is a semi detailed video of a 50" Philips plasma tv repair model 50PF9731D/37. This was my first TV repair and i thought it would be helpful to show how easy it can be. I replaced 2 3300uf 10v 105c capacitors. From what i've read this is one of the most common repairs for LCD and Plasma due to power surge. Total cost of repair was about in parts. Please feel free to ask any question in the comments section. Sorry about the audio in some spots, but i promise you didnt miss anything. Thanks!

Hi Christian! This video was extremely helpful. You fixed our TV! now we have a 2nd issue and I am wondering if you might know what to do… since we followed your video our picture shows up pink and green. We can watch TV normally, but the colors are off and we can’t adjust them. Do you know how to fix this?? I hope so! Thanks!
Thank you thank you. Just fixed my philips 50″ following your instructions and I now don’t have to pay hundreds for a repair, or buy a new set (which would be impossible right now). Much appreciation man. I filmed it too.. perhaps I’ll throw it up also. For what it’s worth to anyone reading, Im no pro, just a regular guy. This was not hard.
Great script, pity camera focus poor. Won’t do close-focus?
Those cap/s have failed! Power-surge not likely cause of cap death! That will blow semiconductors in power supply.(not done?)Most cap blows areare excessive current flow in caps, due to engineering choice at design.Sub-speccing parts!Common in consumer goods.Who needs long-life??Renew with big/better quality caps.
Also big trouble, electrocap suppliers from china shipping duds,in your video timeframe.
Great work, congrats Christian.
Hello, i have a problem with my philips i have a problem with it, it shows no image its all black, it has voice, some inginier said me that a part with tis serial model has a problem

what store did you find the capacitors in? wish i had one in driving distance, I have to order all mine online as radio shack sucks
That’s awesome! I didn’t know that Philips was offer a fix for this TV. $250 seems high considering parts are $4-$8 but at least they are offering something I guess. Glad the video was helpful and Thanks for posting.
Thank you so much!!!!! I was able to fix my tv for $3.95 for the capacitors from ebay. After my tv broke I called Phillips and they have a plan where you pay $250 flat fee to repair the tv. I saw your video clip and decided to give it a shot, I went to Radio shack, they didn’t have the capacitors, so the easiest way is to order from ebay. I never fixed any electronics before, no experience at all, it was easy, fun and it saved me a ton of money!!!!! Thank you again!!!!!
Nice to be seing this info out there. BUT – these capacitors are used in a switching power supply. Telltale signs are the inductor and diode directly next to these caps. The one thing that nobody mentions is that these caps -MUST- be low-ESR type capacitors in addition to 105C caps. Go only with name brand caps such as Panansonic FC series or Nichicon PV or PW series, NO Lelan. Going with the higher voltage rating is a -good- thing as the mfr’s tended to go as low as possible to save pennies.
Great help. I have fixed our Maganavox 50″ plasma for $3 as opposed to replacing the board for $800 like the TV repair dude determined. Wow, it wasn’t really hard as long as you know how to treat delicate electronics. Great Post!
So I followed the video exactly except I could only find 35v 105c 3300mF capacitors. In theory the 35v work the same and shouldn’t suffer the under rated issue of the 10v… it would have been much easier with 10 or 16v. The 35v are the next diameter wider so I had to shield the wires so they could be further off the board. I would not recommend the 35v unless you really know electronics it’s a tight fight, go with the 16v not the10v though. Anyway, regardless I switched them out and had the
@daintgautam Glad to help. Let me know how it turns out.
thanks, I have the same problem and no sound as well.. I shall prefer to give it a try
before I throw it out…

I had the same problemwith my 50 in phillips plasma so I took mine apart and it was 4ea 680uf caps and 1ea 1000uf cap. The 3300′s were fine. I got the parts for free and had a guy at work solder them in and it works like a champ. Just saved me about $900. Thanks a lot.

@ultravibe2001 That’s great news! Thanks for posting!
@bdbfighting the strip on the capacitor must match the marked side on the circle on the board. i just read that somewhere on the net but i cant find the link.

Christian, Thank you! My TV has the exact same symptoms. I figured I’d be buying a new TV this weekend, but looks like I only need to swap out a couple capacitors. You Rock!
How do you know what way is negative and positive on the board?
