I bouth a 50ins LG plasma in November 2007, the plasma is less than 3 years old and is already broken, further more we hardly even use it!!!!

If you are looking for the BEST picture quality in regards to deep black levels and colours, then definetly a PLASMA. LCD/LED have an amazing picture as well, unfortunately, their black levels are not up too par with plasmas. Plasmas perform better in a darker environment, whereas the LCD/LED performs better in a well lit room. PLASMAs are heavier & much thicker, and eat up FAR MORE energy than LCD/LED. Bottom line, get a brand name unit of plasma or LCD/LED.

720p is plenty. The only 1080p source is Blu. Cable TV and video games are not in 1080p, and that is a majority of the available content. You’d be stupid to spend more when you don’t need to.

Your salesman is a noob. Led is not a display technology but a its raplacing the ccfl’s for backlight. they are still making both lcd/tft plasma and whatnot displays (tn, va, s/h-isp etc)

Plasma has better contrast than LED TV’s, LED TVs are still LCD.
